but will the control not lose its Selected Item then?? the use will have to re-select the listitem??

My apologies this does in fact work with IE10, while I was building the sample to send, the more basic code seemed to work fine with IE, so it turned out I had jquery referenced twice which was giving me problems, thanks for the speedy reply Peter
