we are currently trying out jqwidgets and also came across this.
In another thread it is stated that it is “by design”:

But I cannot figure out any relevant use case for this design.
One possible work-around is described on the link below (using “advanced” with space as groupSeparator) but I would indeed consider it a glitch.

Select the inital “0”, type “1” and you will end up with “10” while “1” was expected.
