column header span

I have a grid with a bunch of columns. I want to add a header column above the detail columns header, spanning several columns. Like this:

| Fiance | Travel | expenses |
column 1 column 2 column 3 column 4 column 5 column 6 column 7 column 8 column 9

In this general example I want to show 3 header columns and 9 detail columns.
I have not seen anything in the docs or examples that do this, please advise.

I think I found an example, it is the column hierarchy.
I will try to implement this.

Guess I should have gone a little further with my research BEFORE asking the question.
