Understanding Index variable with jQXCookie

I was looking at this example of navigation bar where jQXCookie has been used.

Based on the general reading from this location, it seems like there wasn’t any index variable which was created in the above example :

http://www.jqwidgets.com/save-and-load-dropdownlist-selection-with-cookies/

Could anyone explain why?

The examples only demonstrate how to use the ‘cookies’.
