how to define the number of characters in serachString before start searching

Hi,

Is there a property that can be used to set the minimum number of characters in the serachString before it start the remote search, by default it starts from the 2nd character. I know I can use the remoteAutoCompleteDelay to increase the delay between two keystrokes but would like to restrict the remote search before certain number of characters.
